I exhaled once and then turned the cage around facing the cage door towards me. I squealed and screamed in rejoice.
“OH! MY! GOSH! DAD! Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you! I love it. It’s so adorable!” I reached over to give my dad a quick hug and then looked in the cage once more. Was I dreaming or was there an amazingly cute white West Highland Terrier staring at me with its adorable black eyes? It looked at me curiously, sitting very still, looking… kind of happy. Or at least that what it seemed like to me. “Hello there, cutie,” I turned and faced my dad “Female or male?” He smiled “Female. Do you have a name yet?” I looked at the dog again. “I think I’ll call her … Cocoa.” I smiled. Yes, Cocoa fit perfectly.
My dad and I unpacked my entire luggage and then it was time to say goodbye. It was easier than I thought. I didn’t even cry. “I love you, Dad.” I gave him a big hug. “I love you, too, my little girl” I untangled myself from his very firm (a little bit too firm for my taste) grip, got my huge (!) suitcase, my purse and the cage and turned my back towards Dad. In that moment, I turned my back towards Texas, towards my old friends, my family, my school, my old life. It was a new beginning and I was ready for it. Here goes nothing, I thought and opened the big glass doors.
I stepped into a gigantic hall with mirrors and crystals. It looked more like a ballroom than an entrance hall. Big paintings hung everywhere and white leather sofas stood in every corner. Right now boys and girls were sitting on them, laughing and having a good time. Others were checking in and making their way towards their rooms. I was received by a girl, approximately 25 who was offering me orange juice in a champagne glass. I told her no thanks and made my way towards the check-in-counter where another young girl about 24 was giving out keys and typing on her computer. “Hi, my name’s Chloe Brooks” She flashed me a nice white smile “Hi Chloe. Welcome to Oliviana’s. So, is this your first year here?” I blushed “Yes, it is,” I admitted. “Okay, then here you have a map of the school, your schedule and here is a new phone. These are the only ones aloud at the school. You have all the numbers you need from the school in your phone book already and you can always save other numbers. Your home number is in there as well. We also registered you an email address for school. Some teachers send homework assignments via email” I was so startled, I didn’t even realize that she had stopped talking and typing on her computer. A phone?! A brand new phone?! This was insane! I took the phone. It had a touch screen and was covered in pink Swarowski crystals. “And here is your key for you room, number 18 which is in building 2, where all of the rooms are. I think you’re all set now. If you have any questions, you can always call me. My number is on your phone. I am the official contact person for first-year-students. My name’s Summer” I took my key and smiled. This was so insane. I couldn’t believe this was happening. Summer said my room was in building 2 so I went outside again and made my way over. This building didn’t have a glass door, this one was a huge (like all of the doors here) light brown wooden door. I opened it with a lot of effort since my hands were full. I looked around, room 18, room 18. Where was room 18?
To be continued.
