My Four Decisions - Part 2
Page 2
“Darling, what’s wrong? Are you ok?” Mum said with a staring glance.
“No. Its ok. I’m ok. I just need to… I need to… I’ll be back in a few minutes!” I ran to the door without hesitation to see the reaction of my appearance on her face. I jogged down the street until I reached a house, which was very glamorous. It was Sarah’s house. I stopped at the gate and opened it, carefully enough that I didn’t make a sound. I left it open behind me and walked toward the bright cream door. I hesitated when I reached the porch. I took a deep breath and dabbed the tears off my cheeks to make me look some way decent. And then I moved one step toward the door and rang the doorbell.
I felt scared, almost as if it was the first day of elementary school and I was alone hoping someone would come and stand next to me. Then the door opened, and there was Sarah standing confused at my appearance. She reached her hand out toward me and asked, “Jessica? Are you ok?”
Why was everyone asking me that question? Wasn’t it obvious what the answer was? I replied saying, “Yes! I just needed to come and say ------” I blanked out! I thought I had lost my mind…why did I stop thinking? I took another deep breath hoping that words would come out of my mouth. “I am sorry! I am so sorry that I am leaving! I am sorry I am such a terrible friend…I won’t blame you if you forget all about me. I won’t forget about you…never!” I felt lost. Sudden numbness ran through my body as if I had been injected with an anaesthetic.
Sarah grabbed hold of both my hands and I suddenly felt less shaky. “Jess! You know I will never forget you! It’s not your fault. Its just faith. You have to believe this is happening for a reason. We will stay in contact and maybe even visit each other during the summer.”
At that moment I remembered how religious Sarah was, she believed everything happened for a reason…I guess I was better to go along with it.
“We can? I mean…we can! Everything must happen for a reason…” I trailed of…thinking of what the reason might be.
“Of course we can! Of course it does!” She leaned toward me and rapped her arms around my shoulders. I felt the tears in my eyes again. This was it. I needed to say my good bye.
“Sarah, I need to go now…I sort of left at a bad time…we were just about to leave for the journey.”
Sarah’s face dropped. “Oh! Yeah, I guess…well…this is good bye?”
“No! How about…See you later!” I smiled hoping she would have the same reaction.
Sarah looked up from the ground and smiled letting out a small sigh. “Sure! See you later Jess!”
I gave her another quick hug and ran down the steps of the porch. I looked back and waved and turned back toward the gate. I quickly shouted “Smell you later alligator!” and laughed. We’re so cheesy.
Sarah laughed and replied with, “In a while Crocodile!”
I saw something sparkle on her cheek and then a tree disturbed my view.
To be continued....
